Our Studio Theatre, located on the first floor of the MSU Riley Center, features hardwood floors, beautifully restored pressed tin ceiling tiles, and floor-to-ceiling windows.  What is commonly referred to as a "black box" studio, this space provides the ultimate intimate environment to enjoy a range of artists and art forms from an incredibly up close and personal perspective.  You'll literally find yourself sitting directly across from or on the elbow of the artists as they perform in an authentic space full of charm and character. A New Orleans folk-rock, blues musician, Spencer Bohren is inspired by traditional blues, gospel and country roots music. His genuine passion for music and songwriting come through in his performance, and his lyrics deliver a simplicity, warmth and authenticity that audiences have come to love. NOTE – The Spencer Bohren performance was scheduled to complement the Smithsonian Exhibit on American roots music, entitled New Harmonies.  Audience members are encouraged to tour the free exhibit prior to the performances.  The exhibit will open Saturday, March 24th and be on display in the MSU Riley Center’s first floor Grand Lobby area through the end of April.  The public may tour the exhibit anytime during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 10 am – 6 pm or before and during shows scheduled in the Center.  The exhibit is made possible in Meridian through a partnership with the Mississippi Humanities Council, Jimmie Rodgers Foundation, Meridian Community College and the MSU Riley Center.

Singer Songwriter Concert featuring Meridian Native & Nashville Songwriter, Don Poythress along with Barry Dean and
Wynn Varble

Friday & Saturday, June 8 & 9 at 8 p.m.

Nashville singer-songwriter and Meridian native, Don Poythress returns home with two other Nashville singersongwriters, Barry Dean and Wynn Varble. The three accomplished songwriters have written numerous awardwinning and top 10 hits for the likes of Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, and more. The performance will be held in the MSU Riley Center’s intimate Studio Theatre. Transformed into a Bluebird Café-style setting, the Studio provides the ideal environment for an acoustic show, allowing the audience to enjoy an up close and personal experience with the artists as they share their stories and perform their award winning songs.
